Advanced Optronics has been awarded a $275,000 SBIR Phase 1 grant by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The project is titled “Determining reliability and efficacy of intraoperative sensors to reduce structural damage during cochlear implantation.”

The project tests whether our sensors can make cochlear implant surgery safer, and we appreciate NIDCD’s support. It aims to make the sensor reliable on a cochlear implant electrode, and to show, with surgeons inserting electrodes into 3D-printed cochlea models, that real-time feedback from the sensor improves their technique.

The award is listed on NIH RePORTER.
